Sensation, affect, motivation, movement and cognition are fundamental aspects of mental life. Their functions underpin the activities of daily living and can be affected by damage to the brain and by drugs.

Clinical neuroscience tries to understand how mental functions are implemented in the brain and how damage to the brain and drugs act on these functions.
